3 Tips for Seasonal Allergy Relief

3 Tips for Seasonal Allergy Relief

Spring is finally here, but with the warmer weather comes one of the biggest nuisances of spring – allergies. Many Americans who were breathing easily during the cold winter will now be plagued by stuffed noses, sneezing, congestion, and itchy eyes.

For allergy sufferers, it often feels like there is no relief in sight. There are medicines to fight the symptoms, but once those treatments wear off it is back to living in agony again. If you know that you suffer from seasonal allergies, you should start thinking about preventative measures right now. You don’t want to wait until it is too late to start fighting back against your allergies. Here are three great ways to prepare yourself for allergy season and help keep your symptoms at bay.

1. Control your triggers

There are a few different triggers that bring on people’s allergy symptoms, and one of the best ways to control your symptoms is to limit your exposure to the allergens. Stay indoors on dry days that are sure to have a lot of pollen in the air. If you have been outside, change and wash your clothes right away to remove pollen from sticking and affecting you indoors. Also wash up to get pollen off of your skin. Refrain from hanging clothes outside to dry after washing them to prevent pollen from sticking to the clothes. If you really need to do something outside, try wearing a dust mask if you can.

2. Keep your home free of allergens

While it is never easy to avoid allergens outside, you’ll want to feel like your home is a safe haven from the offending pollen. This of course, is easier said than done. And while you can’t remove all allergens from the air, you can take steps to keep them at bay by using a dehumidifier to keep air dry. You can also use your air conditioner in your house instead of leaving windows open to keep pollen out. Also try using a vacuum with a HEPA filter to clean your floors as it will do a better job sucking up particles that make symptoms flair up.

3. Clear your nose

Mixing salt and water together and spraying it in your nose is a great way to clear up sinuses. A saline-solution spray will do the same thing – it can give your sinuses relief without putting any additional medicine in your body. It will get rid of mucus and allergens in your nose that are causing discomfort and clear you up in no time.

Allergies can make even the most beautiful spring day seem like a nightmare. Now is the time to start preparing your home for allergy season so you don’t get caught by surprise on that first high-pollen count day. You can grab a HEPA filter at your local hardware store and start cleaning your home’s air right now. Don’t let allergies ruin another spring.
